December at Preschool

Dear Preschool Families,

During the month of December 2011, the curriculum theme will be “Picture a Song.” Preschoolers will be doing projects that are inspired by songs we have been recently singing.  We will also be exploring the concepts: number twelve, a dozen, and inside and outside.

The first week we will be focusing on the songs, “I Love My Rooster,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Jingle Bells.”  Each child will color all of the five animals within the Rooster song, make snowman hats and brooms, and tambourines that jingle.  We will also make color snowflakes for our windows.

During the second week of the month, we will be coloring pictures of items within the song “Tingalayo,” cutting those pictures out, and gluing them into a collage.  Our Winter Holiday Party is that Monday the 12th at 4:30 pm.  Parents are welcome!

During the third week, we will explore the acts of giving and receiving gifts and all of the polite words that we can practice using when someone gives to us.  We will also have a pajama day that Tuesday, the 20th and watch a video, title to be determined but we will post it in advance.  That week we will also be busy finishing up a secret project to give to someone special.  Shhh! Don’t tell anybody.  It’s a secret.

During the last week of December, Ms. Karen will be on vacation but the children will have lots of fun talking about the coming New Year and making some noisy shakers.  Please note that parent and teacher conferences will be held during the second week of January.  A sign up sheet will soon be placed on the sign in/sign out clipboard for all those who wish to meet and discuss their child’s progress and any thoughts, concerns, or ideas they may have.

Happy Holidays!
